Autumn Blaze Red Maple

Acer freemanii

Description: The Autumn Blaze Maple is a hybrid between a Silver and Red Maple. This impressive tree can reach heights of up to 50 feet, with a spread of 40 feet. It exhibits the finest characteristics of both parent species, showcasing a nicely balanced branching habit akin to that of the Red Maple.

Twig/Bark: The twigs are initially gray and smooth, gradually maturing to a darker gray with age. The bark develops a deeply furrowed texture and features rough ridges, contributing to the tree’s visual appeal as it matures.

Leaves: The leaves are lacy in shape. During the growing season, the leaves are a vibrant green, transforming into striking shades of orange and red in the fall. This seasonal color change enhances the tree’s ornamental value, making it a popular choice for landscape design.

Flower/Fruit: In early spring, it produces showy seed pods that are bright red, adding a visually appealing element to the tree as it comes into bloom. These vibrant seed pods not only contribute to the tree’s aesthetic appeal but also serve to attract wildlife.

Habitat: This tree is adaptable and can thrive in a wide range of drainage conditions. However, it is only moderately tolerant of drought, indicating that it performs best in consistently moist environments. For optimal growth, this tree should be planted in areas where it can access adequate moisture, making it suitable for various landscape settings, including urban and residential areas.

All plants, as well as size, color and cultivar, will vary based upon availability.
