Zelkova serrata
Description: The Green Vase Zelkova (Zelkova serrata) is an upright, vase-shaped deciduous tree that can reach up to 45 feet in height with a spread of about 30 feet. Its graceful canopy and arching branches provide dappled shade, making it an attractive landscape choice.
Twig/Bark: The bark starts dark brown, developing an appealing texture as the tree matures. As the smooth gray bark ages, it exfoliates to reveal an orange-brown inner layer, adding ornamental interest.
Leaves: The oblong-elliptic, medium-green leaves are 4 to 6 inches long with serrated edges. In autumn, the foliage transforms into vibrant shades, ranging from yellow to orange and red-brown.
Flowers/Fruit: This cultivar does not produce any significant flowers or fruit.
Habitat: Green Vase Zelkova thrives in average, well-drained soils with medium moisture. It prefers full sun and rich, moist loams but adapts well to urban environments and can tolerate some drought once established.
